INTERNET OF THINGS (IoT)

Telegence can help businesses leverage IoT by providing robust, scalable, and secure M2M solutions. We utilise Wireless networks, Mobile networks and satellites to connect various devices, enabling seamless data transfer and remote management. This empowers businesses to optimise operations, enhance decision-making, and improve customer experiences.

For example, we can integrate IoT solutions for CCTV surveillance, access control systems, advertising screens and many more applications. By connecting these devices to our network, businesses can remotely monitor activities, manage access permissions, and dynamically display targeted advertisements. This not only streamlines operations but also provides valuable insights for strategic planning.

M2M Sims

What are M2M SIMs?

M2M stands for machine-to-machine. An M2M SIM card is a specialised SIM card designed to connect devices and machines to the internet or cellular networks. Unlike traditional SIMs used in smartphones, M2M SIMs are primarily intended for use in devices like:

  • Smart meters: These are used to read and transmit energy consumption data.

  • Connected cars: For telematics, diagnostics, and infotainment systems.

  • Industrial IoT devices: Monitor and control factory equipment, sensors, and other industrial machinery.

  • Wearable devices: For fitness trackers, smartwatches, and other health monitoring devices.

  • Security systems: For alarms, surveillance cameras, and access control systems.

    What do M2M SIMs do?

  • Enable Connectivity: The primary function is to provide a cellular connection for the device to transmit and receive data. This could be anything from sensor readings to control signals.

  • Data Transfer: M2M SIMs facilitate the transfer of data between the device and a remote server or application.

  • Location Tracking: In some cases, M2M SIMs can be used for location tracking purposes.

    Key Features of M2M SIMs

  • Dedicated Data Plans: M2M SIMs typically come with data plans optimised for low-bandwidth, high-volume data transfer.

  • Network Coverage: They are designed to work on specific networks and often have coverage tailored to specific industries or use cases.

  • Security: M2M SIMs often have enhanced security features to protect against unauthorised access and data breaches.

  • Remote Management Capabilities: They may include features for remote SIM provisioning, activation, and deactivation.

In summary, M2M SIMs are essential components of the Internet of Things (IoT), enabling the connectivity and data transfer required for a wide range of applications and devices.

SIMs and Applications

What is a SIM Card?

A SIM card (Subscriber Identity Module) is a small, portable memory chip that stores the information necessary to connect your device to a mobile network.

Telegence offers a range of SIM card options for businesses across all four major UK networks.

Multi-SIMs: A multi-SIM is a device or SIM card that can connect to multiple networks. Multi-SIMs are often used for Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as fleet trackers and industrial equipment.

How it works

  • A multi-SIM device can have two or more physical SIM cards.

  • A multi-network SIM card can connect to multiple networks at once.

  • A multi-SIM device can automatically switch to the strongest network.

  • A multi-SIM device can help ensure connectivity if there is a signal outage.

    Benefits

  • Multi-SIMs can improve signal coverage and bandwidth.

  • Multi-SIMs can help ensure connectivity in areas where only one network has a signal.

  • Multi-SIMs can help ensure connectivity in case of a signal outage with the core provider.

    Examples

  • Fleet trackers: Multi-SIMs can be used to connect fleet trackers to multiple networks.

  • Industrial equipment: Multi-SIMs can be used to connect industrial equipment to multiple networks.

  • Security cameras: Multi-SIMs can be used to connect security cameras to multiple networks.

  • Data SIMs: Designed for devices that primarily require data connectivity, such as tablets, routers, and IoT devices. They offer flexible data plans to suit different usage needs and are ideal for applications like remote
working, mobile broadband, and data-intensive IoT deployments.

  • M2M SIMs: Specifically designed for Machine-to-Machine communication. They are optimised for low-bandwidth, high-volume data transfer, making them ideal for applications like smart meters, connected cars, industrial IoT, Media Screens and telematics.

  • Voice and Data SIMs: Voice and data SIMs are versatile solutions for anyone who needs both voice communication and mobile internet access on their devices. They offer convenience, flexibility, and a single
    point of management.

Telegence can help businesses choose the right SIM card solution based on their specific needs and requirements.

Access Systems

Access Control Systems are technologies used to restrict or permit entry to specific areas or resources. They are designed to enhance security and control access to buildings, rooms, computer systems, and other valuable
assets. Telegence can offer solutions to businesses where entry safeguarding and control is important.

Here's a breakdown:

How they work:
Identification: Users are identified using various methods:

  • Credentials: Passwords, PINs, RFID cards, biometric data (fingerprint, facial recognition)

  • Tokens: Physical or digital devices that generate unique codes.

  • Authentication: The system verifies the user's identity using the provided credentials.

  • Authorisation: Based on the user's identity and access rights, the system grants or denies access to the requested resource.

    Types of Access Control Systems:

  • Physical Access Control Systems (PACS): These control entry to physical locations, such as:

  • Keycard Systems: Using cards to unlock doors.

  • Biometric Systems: Using fingerprint, facial, or iris recognition.

  • Turnstiles: Controlled gates that allow passage only with valid authorisation.

    Benefits of Access Control Systems:

  • Enhanced Security: Prevent unauthorised access to sensitive areas and resources.

  • Improved Safety: Reduce the risk of theft, vandalism, and other security threats.

  • Increased Efficiency: Streamline access control processes and improve operational efficiency.

  • Compliance: Help organisations comply with security regulations and industry standards.

  • Data Protection: Protect sensitive data and systems from unauthorised access.

Examples of Access Control Systems in Use:

  • Office buildings

  • Schools and universities

  • Hospitals

  • Data centre’s

  • Government facilities

  • Residential complexes
